The thriving Junior Section at Eastwood succeeds due to its well connected approach to developing young golfers, and we're proud to provide equal opportunities for boys and girls to learn the game we love.
For the most accomplished juniors, the Junior team compete in the Fleming Watson League in the southside of Glasgow and regularly exceed expectations with every cohort of young golfers that pass through. We say, if they're good enough they're old enough, and often you will see kids as young as 10 or 11 years old playing their first game for the team. We still expect the juniors to perform well in team games, and they hold themselves to the same high standards.
We've changed the way we run our regular junior events, with each now consisting of an on-course competition, skills challenge and team event. This ensures that every time a young golfer comes up to Eastwood, they know they're going to have a great time with their friends while also improving all aspects of their game. Our kids are extremely competitive and, especially in the team environment, drive each other on to improve.
Working closely with Head Professional Steven Maxwell and the Junior Academy coaching, young golfers at Eastwood will go from often hitting the ball for the first time to going out on the course in individual and team competitions. Players are grouped on age and ability to ensure that not only do they learn the key skills of the game, but they do so in a fun, relevant and engaging environment.
And the piece-de-resistance, the original "Junior Week", a week-long junior golf extravaganza in summer of on-course competitions, skills challenges and team events. This is by far and above our best received event, which has had junior golfers coming back for more every year since 1983!
